Solar is Perfect for RV's!

We have been recommending solar for RV owners for two decades. It is ideal for added security for boondocking in the hills. The most common solar application for an RV is photovoltaic panels, but there are other solar applications that will increase the enjoyment of the RV lifestyle:

Solar Cookers: Cook anything you would cook in a regular oven! Enjoy fresh baked bread or chicken without heating up your RV. This is a natural. In a pinch the Sun Oven can pasteurize water for drinking.

Solar Water Distiller: This little known product will distill virtually any water source into fresh, sweet drinking water. You can even turn ocean salt water into pure drinking water. Enjoy your stay by the ocean longer with an endless supply of fresh water.

Solar Water Heater: No rocket science here. Solar water heaters have been around for a long tilme. Why not use it for your RV? With a little plumbing and ingenuity you can rig up a lightweight solar water heater to supplement your existing water heater with a lightweight panel that is 30" x 60". The system will even run on 3.5 watts at 12 volts DC! What an idea!

Solar Shower: You've heard about these. We sell a lot of them at Vegas Trailer Supply. Simple black bags you hang up in a tree and the sun heats the water in about three hours for a warm shower.

Ultra Low Energy Refrigerator: Say goodbye to your propane refrigerator (if you got room like in a toybox RV). The SunDanzer chest-type refrigerator draws only 8 watts at 12 VDC! That means you can have 6 cubic feet of refrigerator space that runs on one 50 watt panel (cool weather) or one 75 watt panel (warm weather) plus a 12 volt battery or two.

As you can see, in an emergency or in your RV in the boonies, solar can make your life a lot easier! Heck, you can stay a lot longer on that beach in Baja if you use solar!

A new RV site here in Las Vegas has asked me to write an article on using solar for RV's. You might want to check in at RVvegas.com for the article in the near future. If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas you will want to keep this link handy because they are trying to make life easier and friendlier for the RV visitor to Vegas.

For more information on the above products and systems please check out the solar pages at our Vegas Trailer Supply site.

All the best my friend! Mike, the Solarguy.
